Steel structures / Controlled atmosphere buildings
Climate-controlled warehouses, also known as controlled atmosphere warehouses, are a special category of industrial buildings in which environmental parameters – temperature, relative humidity and air composition – must be maintained within extremely precise limits. They are essential for the safe storage of food, pharmaceuticals, vegetables and fruits, beverages, sensitive materials or any product that requires controlled conditions.
A climate-controlled warehouse must be designed to ensure:
- controlled temperature (positive, zero or sub-zero degrees, as needed)
- controlled humidity and thermal stability in all areas of the warehouse
- industrial ventilation and air conditioning systems with digital control and multiple sensors
- high-performance thermal insulation, made with PIR/PUR sandwich panels, with thermal bridges eliminated
- high tightness of the envelope – fast doors, seals, anti-condensation systems
- possibility of integrating cold rooms and multifunctional spaces
- electrical installations sized for continuous operation of HVAC equipment
- solutions to prevent condensation on floors, walls and ceilings
- monitoring and alarm systems for temperature or humidity variations
- cargo handling and reception areas separated from the actual climate-controlled space
These buildings have significantly higher technical requirements than ordinary industrial warehouses. Their design requires an integrated approach, in which the metal structure, thermal insulation materials, electrical installations, ventilation and refrigeration equipment must be perfectly correlated.
MeCAD designs climate-controlled warehouses completely adapted to the desired function: food warehouses, pharmaceutical warehouses, cold rooms, cold processing spaces, beverage warehouses, spaces for temperature or humidity-sensitive products.
By using 3D models and precise measurements, the project is optimized so that the beneficiary obtains a construction with minimal heat loss, high energy efficiency and long service life.
1. Temperature-controlled warehouses (the air composition in the storage cell does NOT change during storage):
- refrigerated warehouses with temperatures below -24˚C (for meat products, in general)
- refrigerated warehouses 2˚C .. 4˚C (for vegetables, fruits, etc.)
2. Temperature-controlled warehouses (the air composition in the storage cell changes during storage):
- vegetable and root vegetable warehouses (tomatoes, potatoes, onions, cabbage, etc.)
- fruit warehouses: apples, grapes, bananas, etc.
